Reimagining Professional Learning Considering Schools as a Malleable Material

Presenter: Guy Trainin

In Art TEAMS, an AAE funded project, we have examined how teachers explore schooling as a malleable material. The metaphor - originally articulated by Jorge Lucero (2018) - provides a powerful organizing principle for educational transformation emerging from arts education. We will present insights from teachers who integrate the arts as they explore the malleability of schooling and growing teacher agency (Lasky 2005). We plan to open a conversation with conference session participants about using this metaphor and real-world application to transform education.

Exhibitions of Learning as a Celebration of Process

Presenters: Guy Trainin, Sarah Holz, Maggie Elsener

Exhibitions of learning are living documentation of a student's process of coming to understand rather than merely a display of products. We will show how exhibitions can take various forms that celebrate process and provide opportunity for feedback and celebration.
